News fro Libyan Front – June 21, 2011

Is US readying for a ground invasion of Libya?
“The exercise is designed to test the capability of every type of Marine Corps aircraft, including MV-22 Ospreys and F/A 18 Hornets, as well as some Navy ships and Air Force planes.

The drill will stretch from Quantico Marine Base in northern Virginia to the Navy’s Pinecastle Bombing Range in Florida.

With thousands of Marines and other service members involved, it’s the biggest such drill ever on the U.S. East Coast.”

Gaddafi regime accused of laying landmines
Col Muammar Gaddafi’s regime was accused of violating the laws of war on Tuesday night by laying landmines against rebel forces in the Western mountains near Tunisia in areas used by civilians.

Landmines are by their nature defensive weapons. If the NATO aggressor can bomb universities and cities why Gadhafi should not lay mines to slow down NATO’s ground forces (aka “rebels”)?

By the way, US has millions of mines and has refused to join a treaty forbidding their use.

Gadhafi’s troops finally hit something
Gadhafi’s troops never managed to shoot down any NATO aircraft until now. Luck?
“Libyan state TV aired footage saying that pro-Kadafi government forces shot down an Apache attack helicopter. It was only the drone Fire Scout, the first announced shooting of an aircraft in Libyan war.”
Obama was saying that because Libyan troops cannot defend themselves against NATO bombings, those bombings do not represent “hostilities”. Does this change it?
